"Read My Lips"
“A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.” Luke 6:45
“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalm 19:14
My child,
When you feel scalded by others, sometimes your mouth tries to release the scorching steam that is building in your heart. Expressing yourself can be helpful. But when you are upset and don’t come to me before speaking to others, the words that flow from your heart might not play well on the main stage of your life.
Your unsanctified speech can compromise your relationships, and you may wind up with a heart hangover the next morning. You know that sick feeling you get after you calm down and are unsure of all the words you said but regret what you do remember.
I want you to make me your first reach when you are wounded. The stampede of your unbridled words will not chase your pain away. Give me that pain. I will carry it for you. Then, as my Spirit leads you, you can express yourself to others.
Whatever is in your heart determines what you say. Since I am the only one who can truly make your heart good, you need my continuing transformation, in order for the fruit of your lips to be life giving.
I love you,
Abba
My Abba,
When I perceive something as unjust, I can open my mouth and the rude, the bad, and the ugly may swagger out. I can get swept away in the torrent of my emotions. Sometimes, when I am attempting to make the wrong things right, I get tangled up in my superhero cape as I try to fly in and assume your responsibilities. That scene usually ends in a crash-and-burn routine of some kind.
I want to let your Spirit have reign in my heart and mind when I am mad or sad, so that I don’t inflict damage and wind up in a swamp of regret. Please be the gatekeeper of my lips as you work to sanctify my thoughts and emotions.
Give me your unconditional love for people. I want to love people when they act in loveable ways, and when they do not. I realize it is not true love, your love, if I only want to “love” someone when they act the way I want them to.
I am so thankful you don’t love me that way. I am sure I don’t look distinctly loveable most of the time. Thank you for loving me despite my significant flaws.
If love is acting in someone else’s best interest, then please show me what words will bless others. What words are in their best interest? What words nourish life? May the words on my lips blossom from your tree of life!
I love you,
Mollie
