"You Have My Word"
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5
Word:
expression, making known one’s thoughts or feelings
a person's account of the truth, especially when it differs from that of another person
a promise or assurance: everything will be taken care of - you have my word.
Life:
vitality, vigor, energy: the power to provide light or heat
Light:
a source of illumination that stimulates sight and makes things visible
My Abba,
Thank you for using these definitions to give me a fresh perspective on this passage. Thank you for expressing (making known) your thoughts and feelings through Jesus - your Word - as he walked among those he created.
What a magnificent “account of the truth” he is! What a beautiful “promise or assurance” from you! Thank you that you assure us, "Everything will be taken care of - you have my Word."
I also love the definitions of "life" and "light." Thank you for being the only true source of illumination that stimulates real sight and makes your truth visible as I walk this path of life with you.
If I were to embark on a journey, I can imagine a trustworthy guide trying to tell me the truth about the best path to take. He could show me a map with two paths saying, “This one will take you to the most spectacular seashore with a fringe of pristine ivory sand bordering a translucent ocean, rocking gently under a pale blue sky. Or you can take this other path. You will meet up with menacing terrain and frigid darkness until you abruptly plunge into unrelenting quicksand.”
I would hope if someone I trusted made that truth visible, I would have the sense to choose the seashore. But sometimes the obvious, preferable path isn’t that obvious to me.
I need you. Please don’t allow me to get lost in the haze of my circumstances and miss the luminous display of your splendor. Thank you for giving me renewed vision this morning.
When I walk in your light, you give me supernatural sight to see you, others and myself, more as we truly are. You make things visible that were not clear to me before. You give me true perspective and understanding. Armed with that awareness and your power, I am more apt to choose a life-giving path.
Your light dispels my shifting shadows and illusions. You are the power that works within me to create vitality. Please fill me with the life that is only found in you.

I granted you the precious instinct to search for life. I have made you in my image and I am perfect life. Therefore, I wired you to pursue life. As you pass through the clouds of what is perishing, I want to remind you that these drifting things without eternal roots will eventually recede from view. I will remain. Together we can focus on what will endure when the mist of your earthly life vanishes.
I am life and have become your life. Although your body is failing and you feel trapped by its limitations, living in my presence will cause your heart to thrive. Remember that despite what deteriorates, I am renewing your spirit day by day. You know you were made for much more than just survival.
My light shines in your darkness and the darkness will never overcome it. In fact, the darker the night, the more gloriously visible my light is.
Join me in the light of my love today. I created you to be a vivid expression of my radiance infused by my Spirit!
